The winning authors tour several colleges, giving readings, lecturing, visiting classes, conducting workshops, and publicizing their books.

Each writer receives an honorarium of at least $500 from each college visited, as well as travel expenses, hotel accommodations, and hospitality.

I hope to hear a compelling voice, in whatever emotional register the writer chooses; and to read a vividly rendered story or narrative essay which lingers with me for its soul-making. Her contributions to magazines and newspapers are numerous, as have been her writing awards.
