By definition, “stem cells are characterized by their ability to self-renew and to differentiate into multiple different cell types and tissues” (Koch, Berg, and Betts, 155).

Stem cells are undeveloped cells that are able to, once injected into the afflicted organ, tissue, or bone, self-renew into the cells that belong to that bodily region....

One of the main characteristics of stem cells is their ability to self-renew or multiply while maintaining the potential to develop into other types of cells.

Stem cells can become cells of the blood, heart, bones, skin, muscles, brain etc.

Coming from a Catholic school background, stem cells were always lumped at the end of the chapter with abortion, contraceptives, and other awful things that “went against God’s plan.” I didn’t know what they were or why we really used them, but already had a negative connotation about them.

So, taking a neutral stance, I wanted to see what the world was saying today about this important research field....

Some of the serious medical conditions such as cancer and birth defects which are lead by abnormal cell division and differentiation will have new therapy dealing with stem cell research.

Stem cells have the ability to replace damaged cells and treat disease of extensive burns, leukemia (a cancer of blood forming tissues) and other blood disorders....
