- In this compare and contrast essay I will compare four poems in detail and mention two in the passing to find similarities and differences.
The poems and sonnets I have chosen to compare are ‘Porphyria’s Lover’ and ‘My Last Duchess’ by Robert Browning and Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare The two Robert Browning poems, ‘Porphyria’s Lover’ and ‘My Last Duchess’ were written in the infamous Victorian Era whereas the two Shakespearean Sonnets were written in the Elizabethan Era.
The content of the poem is very much the same throughout the whole of the poem.
In the first stanza, the poet is basically talking about how the flea represents their coming together and in the last two stanza's the poet tries to then persuade the woman to have sex by using different tactic's like guilt etc....
In the poem "Sonnet" Millay is still in love with someone because it is told to us in the last two lines of the poem.
