Types Of Research Methods For Essays

This list is not comprehensive but merely serves as a guide to help you reflect on aspects you might want to include in your Methods section, where applicable.

With these tips in mind, you will be well on your way to drafting a clear and meaningful Methods section.

In methodology chapter of your dissertation, you are expected to specify and discuss the type of your research according to the following classifications.

Types of research methods can be broadly divided into two quantitative and qualitative categories.

Table below illustrates the main differences between exploratory and conclusive research designs: John Dudovskiy [1] Bajpai, N.

(2011) “Business Research Methods” Pearson Education India [2] Herbst, F. (2004) Business Research, Juta and Co Ltd, p.15 [3] Herbst, F. (2004) Business Research, Juta and Co Ltd, p.13 [4] Kumar, R.In theory, the Methods section is often drafted first because you would have written much of this during the initial stages of your research project. This section is also usually the last to be finalized once you have finished your research because you would need to adjust the descriptions to (1) reflect any adjustments you made while conducting your research and (2) incorporate feedback from co-authors and reviewers.Quantitative research “describes, infers, and resolves problems using numbers.Emphasis is placed on the collection of numerical data, the summary of those data and the drawing of inferences from the data”[2].Exploratory studies only aim to explore the research area and they do not attempt to offer final and conclusive answers to research questions.Conclusive studies, on the contrary, aim to provide final and conclusive answers to research questions.Generally speaking, however, you should have sections that roughly correspond to the following: The following is a table summarizing some of the factors you may want to consider while drafting or revising your Methods section. We have organized the table based on the four general headings listed above.A research paper contains not only the results but also how you got the results and how you arrived at the conclusions you did. It should explain both the actual procedures undertaken and the methodological choices made in designing your study. We include a Methods section in our papers so that others can reproduce our experiments and evaluate the validity of our results. In other words, readers should understand what you did, how you did it, and why you did it.
